The best weapon you have against this annual weed is crabgrass preemergence herbicide (also called crabgrass preventer). You apply this product in the spring before the crabgrass seed sprouts. This granular herbicide works by creating a chemical barrier at the surface of the soil. As the seeds begin germination, they take in the herbicide and die.

You can buy preemergence from your local garden center and treat you lawn, but we highly recommend hiring professionals if you have a lot invested in your lawn. This isn’t just a sales pitch, there is good reason for hiring professionals.  The chemistry that goes into herbicides, or any other lawn chemical for that matter, is just that; chemistry.  Having the knowledge, and knowing how to calculate the precise amount chemical needed for a given yard isn’t a “one size fits all” process. Unfortunately that is what you get when you buy products for garden centers. It is just too easy to under treat and over treat your lawn using and “general” measurement.

Our specialists have chemical training and will evaluate your lawn to calculate the precise measurement of chemical for your lawn. This will optimize the effectiveness of the treatment and maximize the time between treatments. This way your lawn will look it best free of crabgrass as well as other weeds.
